2016 Awards Recognize Innovation and Superior Service in Long Term Care
June 27, 2016
PHOENIX (June 27, 2016) – Havasu Regional Medical Center in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, is proud to announce that its Skilled Nursing Unit along with the Lake Havasu City Fire Department Adapted Response Vehicle (ARV) have received the 2016 Innovative Program and Improvement Award from the Arizona Health Care Association (AHCA), the state’s largest association and advocacy organization for skilled nursing and assisted living communities. The honor was presented in June at AHCA’s annual statewide conference in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The award is one of seven statewide honors recognizing individuals and organizations that go above and beyond to provide exceptional care to Arizona’s elderly and disabled residents.
In 2014, Havasu Regional Medical Center (HRMC) partnered with the Lake Havasu City Fire Department to create the ARV, an innovative approach to reducing the potential for readmission to the hospital. After a patient is discharged from HRMC’s Skilled Nursing Unit, fire department paramedics visit the patient at home within 24 to 72 hours, at no charge. During the visit, medics assess breathing and vital signs, review medications, and assist with discharge instructions. This proactive, preventive approach is designed to provide quick, responsive and consistent assistance, and reduce the number of readmissions to the hospital and ultimately to create a healthier community.
“These outstanding professionals have chosen to work in a career that is complex, challenging and also deeply rewarding,” said AHCA Executive Director Kathleen Collins Pagels. “Each of the caregivers and organizations selected for these awards – along with all those who were nominated – represent the best-of-the best of our profession.”
